FanDuel Took 16.6M Super Bowl Bets, 19% Increase from 2024

Flutter Entertainment’s (NYSE: FLUT) FanDuel handled 16.6 million wagers during Super Bowl LIX, representing a 19% rise from the previous year. 

FanDuel, the leading online sportsbook in the US, reported that almost three million active users made the 16.6 million bets on the major event. During peak times, the operator was handling 70,000 bets every minute. The financial implications of Super Bowl betting on Flutter’s first-quarter results were not discussed, but it is generally believed that the game resulted in a low-hold situation for operators due to the Philadelphia Eagles' victory and the total score exceeding 48.5 points. Video game firms preferred the Kansas City Chiefs to secure a victory in a low-scoring match.

"Fans predicted a high scoring game, with the majority picking the Over on the 48.5-point total ahead of kickoff,” according to FanDuel.

The concluding score was Eagles 40 – Chiefs 22, indicating that the most favored exact score wagers on FanDuel didn’t pay off for bettors. The scores were Chiefs 38 – Eagles 35, and Chiefs 27 – Eagles 24. 

Investors Disregard Super Bowl Results 

The Super Bowl concludes a long period of favorable NFL results for customers that sportsbooks have faced, and it seems the major event continued that pattern. 

Investors appeared indifferent as Flutter ended slightly up on Monday, while DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG) increased by 1.32%. Rush Street Interactive (NYSE: RSI) distinguished itself with a 2.41% increase on higher-than-usual volume to kick off the week. 

Concerning Flutter’s financial outcome, there was a slight positive aspect in the shape of prop bets. On FanDuel, Saquon Barkley, the Eagles running back, was the top choice for MVP of the game based on total bets and handle. He was the most wagered on player for an anytime touchdown, yet he achieved neither goal. 

Regarding Barkley, he was one of the components in an eight-leg same-game parlay that allowed a FanDuel customer to transform $10 into a payout of $7,612.63. 

It Appears That 'Kick of Destiny 3' Succeeded 

The Super Bowl ranks among the largest events for customer acquisition in the yearly US sports schedule, and FanDuel has capitalized on the major game with its “Kick of Destiny” ads. The third version of the campaign showcased Eli and Peyton Manning, ex-Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks and endorsers for one of FanDuel’s competitors. 

Eli, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants, triumphed in the field goal contest against his elder brother, pleasing many FanDuel clients with that result. 

“Almost two million fans made a pick on ‘Kick of Destiny 3’, with over one million picking Eli who each will receive $10 in Bonus Bets,” according to the gaming company.
